Education Division Presentation on Taiwan at National Sunchon University
Mr. Chang began by talking to the students about Taiwan’s history, and then went on to talk about Taiwan’s economy, culture, and education, and current relations between Taiwan and Korea. He pointed out that Taiwan is Korea’s fifth largest trade partner, and Korea is Taiwan’s fifth largest trade partner. These two democratic countries have charted a very similar course in their progress, with democracy and freedom being core principles of both countries. It is necessary for the two countries to develop closer relationships to ensure further prosperity.
Professor Kim Hun-Ho (金勳鎬), from the Department of Chinese Language and Literature moderated the session. He stated that Taiwan and Korea have a long-term traditional and historical friendship, and Taiwan is an important country to Korea educationally and culturally, as well as economically. And for these reasons, Korean people should pay more attention to understanding Taiwan.
After speaking to the students, Mr. Chang went to meet the newly elected president Dr. Park Jin-Sung (朴真成) to pay a curtesy visit and discuss possibilities for future cooperation. Dr. Park said that he was delighted that Mr. Chang was his first VIP since he took up his new post as president of National Sunchon University.
Mr. Chang also visited Professor Kim Eun-Ah (金垠雅), Director of the Department of Chinese Language and Literature and discussed current Chinese language and Chinese culture studies in Taiwan.
