A Conference on Scholarship Opportunities and Experiences of the Paraguayan Alumni and Scholarship Recipients of the Republic of China (Taiwan) was jointly organized by the Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan) to the Republic of Paraguay, the Ministry of Education and Culture, and the Paraguayan Taiwan Alumni Association and held at the auditorium of the National University of Asuncion, on Friday August 19, 2016.
The purpose of the conference was to promote the great opportunities for intellectual training offered by the Republic of China (Taiwan), and the scholarships available to do so, and to share the experience of Paraguayan students who have been benefited from receiving scholarships and studying the Chinese language, and/or completing undergraduate and graduate programs in Taiwanese universities. Since 1991, 304 scholarships have been granted to Paraguayan students, and more than 150 students are currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree, a master’s degree, or a PhD at different universities in Taiwan.
Mr. Alexander Yui, the Ambassador of the Republic of China (Taiwan) to Paraguay; Professor Abel Bernal Castillo the rector of the National University of Asuncion; Dr. Salvadora Giménez, General Director of Universities and Higher Institutes of the Ministry of Education and Culture; Mr. Julio Arrúa, the president of the Paraguayan Taiwan Alumni Association, and members of the academic and cultural community in Paraguay attended the opening ceremony.
The conference was an excellent way to encourage students in Paraguay to consider undertaking further studies in Taiwan. Approximately 400 senior high school students from different public schools attended the conference and raised questions about Taiwan’s education system and the possibilities for studying in Taiwan.
Some former scholarship recipients, including a number of current Paraguayan students spoke to them about their experiences and their favorite memories of their time studying in Taiwan.
And the conference has already had a great response. Lots of students have been contacting the Office of Education for more information about the different programs available.
