The Ministry of Education provides Taiwan Scholarships (to study for a degree) and Huayu Enrichment Scholarships (to study the Chinese language) for outstanding Vietnamese students to study in Taiwan every year.
Applications for the two scholarship programs are independently handled by the education division in Hanoi and by the education division in Ho Chi Minh City. The education division in Hanoi is responsible for selecting up to 17 Taiwan Scholarship winners and up to 28 Chinese language scholarship winners, and the education division in Ho Chi Minh City is responsible for selecting up to 16 Taiwan Scholarship winners, and up to 18 Chinese language scholarship winners.
This year more than 250 young Vietnamese students applied for a scholarship. A scholarship award ceremony was held in Hanoi on July 8, 2016 for the 17 Taiwan Scholarship recipients and the 28 Chinese language scholarship recipients selected by that education division.
Mr. Richard Shi, the Representative at the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Hanoi presented the scholarship certificate to each of the 45 scholarship winners. He encouraged them all to concentrate on acquiring professional knowledge and skills, and to immerse themselves in Taiwan’s diverse culture. The scholarship winners are expected to return to Vietnam after they complete their studies and then work contributing to social and economic cooperation between Vietnam and Taiwan that will lead to mutually beneficial development.
After the ceremony, officials from the education, visa, and immigration divisions held a workshop to give the scholarship winners practical information and advice. This was followed by five Vietnamese alumni of different universities in Taiwan sharing details of their experiences there to help all this year’s scholarship winners prepare well and get the most out of studying in Taiwan.
