Taiwanese Education Delegation attends EAIE Conference in U.K. to Promote Study in Taiwan and Educational Relations

Twenty universities in Taiwan participated in the 28th European Association for International Education (EAIE) conference and exhibition in Liverpool in the UK, from September 13 to 16, 2016. The EAIE draws together people from different cultures, nationalities, and fields and has developed a platform for creating dynamic partnerships within higher education. Taiwan has been participating in the annual EAIE conference and exhibition for several years now, promoting Study in Taiwan, and as a result many higher education institutions in Europe have become aware of what Taiwan has to offer, and collaborations and interactions have increased.

Dr Min-Ling Yang, Director General of the Department of International and Cross-Strait Education of the Ministry of Education in Taiwan led a delegation of more than 40 representatives of the universities in Taiwan, mostly deans, and directors of International Affairs Offices, to attend the conference. A Study in Taiwan booth provided detailed information on the joint/dual degree courses, high-level partnership establishment opportunities, exchange programmes for teaching and research staff and students, Mandarin Chinese programmes, and short-term programmes available.

The theme of this year’s conference was “Imagine…”. Taiwan’s participating higher education institutions promoted imagining, and then bringing about, enhanced international cooperation, and imagining studying in Taiwan and enjoying affordable, quality education, cultural diversity and a friendly environment, to increase the international profile of higher education in Taiwan.
Speakers from Taiwan gave presentations at two sessions: one on “Summer Schools on the Rise: Finding your Profile” and the other on “Regional Collaboration Networks: Lessons from SATU”. (SATU is a regional tertiary educators’ forum: Southeast and South Asia and Taiwan Universities)

Dr Yang also visited the University of Liverpool to promote the 2017 Asia-Pacific Association for International Education (APAIE) conference, which will be hosted by National Sun Yat-sen University in Kaohsiung, Taiwan from March 20 to 23, 2017. A ‘Taiwan Night’ banquet was hosted by National Sun Yat-sen University and the MOE on September 15. Taiwanese universities invited their partner institutions in the UK to attend the event in order to discuss possibilities for further collaboration while enjoying performances and dinner.
