This year 9,278 people registered to take teacher qualification assessment examinations, and 8,872 actually took them. Examinees who want to become qualified elementary school teachers took separate tests in five subjects, while those who want to become qualified preschool or secondary school teachers took separate tests in four appropriate subjects. This year’s attendance rate was 95.62%. This is just slightly (0.26%) less than the attendance rate of 95.88% in 2016, when 8,663 people registered and 8,306 took the qualification assessment examination.

The provisions of Article 8 of the Assessment Regulations Regarding Pre-school through Grade 12 Teacher Qualifications stipulate that examinees must satisfy the following criteria to pass: their average score must be at least 60; they are not permitted to get a score of less than 50 in any two subjects; and they are not permitted to get a score of 0 in any subject.

This year, a total of 4,843 people passed the exam while 4,029 failed; this pass rate of 54.587% is 3.817% higher than the 2016 passing rate of 50.770%. The MOE stresses that these qualification assessment examinations are conducted in a fully open, fair and objective manner, and that there is no “expected” pass rate.
