People had a chance to enjoy Taiwanese culture in Canberra this September during Taiwan Week at the Australian National University (ANU).

Taiwan Week is an annual event at ANU that brings various Taiwanese cultural experiences to the campus. ANU’s Taiwan Week took place this year from September 26 to 29. It was coordinated by Dr. Tsai Tsan-Huang, a Taiwan Studies lecturer at ANU, and co-sponsored by the ANU School of Culture, History and Language, the Department of East Asian Studies, and the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Australia.

The presentations of Taiwanese culture included a Sutra copying and Chinese calligraphy workshop, a tea and Buddhist meditation workshop (both sponsored by the Nan Tien Temple in Sydney), Taiwanese tea tasting, an elegant evening music gathering featuring Chinese operatic and instrumental traditions, as well as modern pieces played on traditional instruments, and a Taiwan film festival at the Auditorium of the Australian Centre on China in the World.

The films screened were: Badu’s Homework (2003), Yogee Ti (2012), Super Citizen Ko (1995), Civil Disobedience (2013), Girlfriend Boyfriend (2012), City of Jade (2016), and The Road to Mandalay (2016). Be sure not to miss next year’s Taiwan Week!
