12 Belgian college students attended orientation to study in Taiwan
In order to encourage outstanding foreign students to study in Taiwan, and to promote the internationalization of higher education in Taiwan, the government of R.O.C. Taiwan has been offering Taiwan Scholarships and‘Huayu Enrichment Scholarships every year. This year 25 Belgian students applied for these scholarships, and after a rigorous selection process, the Taipei Representative Office in the EU and Belgium awarded scholarships to 12 students from Belgian universities, which include the Catholic University of Leuven (KUL), which include the Catholic University of Louvain (UCL), and the Higher Institute for Interpreters and Translators (ISTI). These students received either a Huayu Enrichment scholarship or a Taiwan scholarship to pursue a Master’s degree.

To help the students prepare for their stay and studying in Taiwan, the Education Division hosted an orientation on August 6, 2013. Director Huei-wen Hsu welcomed the students and encouraged them to make the best use of their time in Taiwan. They received an information package, and a link to the Taiwan Alumni Association Facebook page that the office has set up to support them during their stay. Two former scholarship recipients also shared details their experiences with the new students.

To strengthen educational exchanges between Taiwan and Europe, we encourage more Belgian and Luxembourgian students to apply for Taiwan scholarships and Huayu Enrichment Scholarships in a timely manner.
