“Taiwan Cultural Week” at the National University of Asuncion

“Taiwan Cultural Week” at the National University of Asuncion
The Embassy of the Republic of China ( Taiwan) together with the National University of Asunción held a “Taiwan Cultural Week”. The National University of Asunción in Paraguay is one of the overseas partner institutions of the Taiwan Academy.

The Cultural Week was host from November 13-20, 2013 with the main purpose to disseminate and promote the culture, music, language and visual arts of Taiwan.

The inauguration ceremony took place at the Central Library of the National University of Asuncion welcoming authorities and students of the University as well as local people.

The main activities included an Art Exhibition: “Millenary Treasures of the Republic of China (Taiwan)” with precious pieces from the National Palace Museum of Taiwan, allowing students to experience the millenary arts of ceramic, bronze and wood sculpture.

Addtionally, the international musician, pipa player Lou Chao Yun , visited Paraguay exclusively for this occasion to perform with Paraguayan guitarist, Favio Rodriguez. Together, they performed traditional Paraguayan and Taiwanese songs.

Professor Emilia Tiao, who was selected by the Ministry of Education of Taiwan to come to Paraguay to teach Mandarin Chinese, finished her classes with theatre and songs in Mandarin Chinese, which were performed by her students from different institutions.

This event also included the exhibition of two famous Taiwanese movies: “Cape Nº 7” and “The Fairy Shoes”.

The opening of the “Taiwan Cultural Week” provided students with an opportunity for a hands-on approach to experience the rich culture of Taiwan.
