Ambassador Tien Chung-Kwang attends the Yonex Sunrise India Open 2014 to cheer on badminton players from Taiwan

The Yonex Sunrise India Open 2014 badminton tournament took place at the Siri Fort Indoor Sports Complex in New Delhi from April 2-6. Around 400 players from 12 countries were seen in action during the tournament, including a team of 10 players from Chinese Taipei, led by coach Chen Chih Hao. The Education Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Center in India provided all the assistance the visiting players and their coach needed during their stay in India. The team paid close attention to staying in good condition, and to being meticulous about sanitation when eating and drinking. They even took their own familiar food and cookers with them to India.

The qualifying rounds were played on April 1, before the main tournament began on April 2. Ambassador Tien went to the tournament on April 3, accompanied by his colleagues from Taipei Economic and Cultural Center in India, and by friends from Taiwan currently in New Delhi, and everyone cheered on the Taiwan delegates. Despite a valiant effort, the mixed double team from Chinese Taipei, Hung-Ling Chen and Wen-Hsing Cheng, was defeated by the world no.1 mixed double team from China. But the team will return to India in May to take part in the finals of the Badminton World Federation’s Thomas Cup and Uber Cup.
