Taiwan participates in the International Food Festival in Asuncion
The celebratory activities for Independence Day included an International Food Festival featuring the participation of many of the foreign embassies and representative offices in Paraguay, delighting local people with traditional food from their home countries: from the Republic of China (Taiwan), Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, Italy, Peru, and Spain, among others. This is the third year that the Embassy of the Republic of China has participated in this food festival, with a stand sharing its traditional Chinese cuisine with Paraguayan friends. The Taiwanese style fried noodles, fried rice, and sweet and sour pork were already well-known favorites, while some other dishes, such as sliced-pork-ears and zongzi, which is sticky rice with various tasty items inside, all wrapped in leaves, turned out to be something new and special to most Paraguayans.
The President of the National Congress of Paraguay, Mr. Julio César Velázquez, accompanied by the Director General of El Cabildo, Margarita Morselli, paid a visit to the Taiwan stand and both really liked the fried rice. As well as food, the Embassy of the Republic of China stand offered the public brochures and booklets about Taiwan, and scholarship information for potential students.
