Three Paraguayan graduate students, Pedro Villalba, Ariana González, and Cristell Duarte could not wait to fly to Taiwan. They were selected by the International Cooperation and Development Fund (ICDF) in the Republic of China (Taiwan) to receive a fully-funded scholarship to study a 4-year program degree in Medicine at I-Shou University in Kaohsiung City in southern Taiwan.

The three students graduated from the Department of Surgical Instrumentation at the Medical School of the National University of Asuncion. They had learnt about the ICDF scholarships from the Dean of the Medical School, Dr. Aníbal Peris. Dr. Peris had become aware of the high quality of teaching at I-Shou University on an official visit to Taiwan and strongly encouraged his students to apply for such a great opportunity.

To obtain a scholarship, these three students had to take qualifying exams in Biology, Chemistry, and English, and have their results within the 20 first places among a total of 40 hopeful candidates from different countries. Pedro Villalba Valdez was placed 5th, Cristell Duarte Cheretti was placed 9th and Ariana González Segovia was placed 15th.

Dr. Peris expressed his gratitude to the Republic of China (Taiwan), the ICDF, and I-Shou University and he promised to assist with having the degrees that the students will receive after successfully completing their studies in Taiwan to be recognized and validated by the authorities in Paraguay.
