Taiwan’s National Kaohsiung University of Hospitality and Tourism Representatives Visit Johnson & Wales University, Providence, Rhode Island
National Kaohsiung University of Hospitality and Tourism (NKUHT) in Taiwan has established a formal educational cooperation agreement with Johnson and Wales University (JWU) in Providence, Rhode Island. The two universities signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) at Johnson and Wales University on October 24, 2014. Both are renowned for their culinary education and hotel management programs, and this MOU will further promote teacher and student exchanges.

Dr. Chen Wen-Tsung, head of the International Affairs Office at NKUHT, said this will allow both universities to initiate student exchange programs, and this will help students from Taiwan undertake a one-year internship at JWU in the near future. About 200 NKUHT students are currently preparing to meet a requirement to spend one full year abroad training or in an internship. NKUHT has already established internship programs with similar universities in California and Florida. JWU could be the first university in the New England region to establish such a program with NKUHT.

Dr. Manny Tavares, Dean of International Recruitment & Training at JWU pointed out the strong relations that JWU enjoys with NKUHT. Many presidents of JWU have visited NKUHT. Moreover, the number of NKUHT alumnae studying in JWU continues to increase. JWU also anticipates additional exchange programs and academic enhancement as a result of entering this formal educational cooperation agreement.

Many Taiwanese students attended the historic signing ceremony. In JWU, there are approximately 100 students from Taiwan and many of them are also graduates of NKUHT.
