First Taiwan Night in Brussels a great success
The students from Taiwan in Brussels organized their first ever Taiwan Night, held on December 5. Over 120 people attended. The event, organized by the Taiwan Student Associations of ULB (Université libre de Bruxelles, French for “Free University of Brussels”, although its name is rarely translated, a French-speaking private research university), and UCL (Université catholique de Louvain), and the Taiwan Student Association of Brussels, provided a wonderful opportunity for many Europeans to experience the hospitality of Taiwan’s people and learn about the country’s culture and unique beauty The participants learned about Taiwan’s cuisine, enjoyed some traditional food and even made their own dumplings. They also enjoyed an onscreen introduction to some of Taiwan’s tourist attractions, landscape, and cultural festivals and even learned a few Chinese phrases.
The Education Division at the Taipei Representative Office in the EU & Belgium brought along some tourism brochures and scholarship information to enthuse the students about studying in Taiwan. The evening concluded with a performance by two of Taiwan’s famous musicians: jazz pianist Hsu Yu-ying and singer Tsai Wen-hui. It was a very enjoyable evening, and everyone is eagerly looking forward to the next Taiwan Night!
