TECO in Osaka and Osaka University have signed a Taiwan Lectureship agreement
Tsai Ming-Yao, the Director of TECO in Osaka, visited the Mino campus of Osaka University on July 8, accompanied by Education Secretary Huang Guan-Chau, to sign a Taiwan Lectureship agreement with Osaka University. This is the first national university in Japan to establish a lectureship in Taiwan studies.

Tsai Ming-Yao praised the academic achievements of Osaka University at the signing ceremony, and expressed hope that mutual exchanges and cooperation would enhance Taiwan Studies, and that the research findings in this field would be shared with scholars in every field, enabling Japanese scholars to understand the current status of different aspects of Taiwan.

Prof. Akihiko Azuma, the dean of the School of Foreign Studies, and Prof. Ouchi Hajime, the dean of the Graduate School of Language and Culture, expressed gratitude on behalf of the university for the donation from the Ministry of Education of the R.O.C. to establish this new lectureship. They both described the great honor and heavy responsibility they felt, and they promised to implement the project in accordance with the agreement, in order to fully achieve its objectives.

In the new semester in October, Osaka University will begin bringing together scholars in the Taiwan studies field to set up and offer Taiwan-related courses, hold seminars, and conduct group study visits to Taiwan, and thereby promote Japanese students' understanding of Taiwan and its language and culture of Taiwan.
