Mr. Tien Chung-kwang, Taiwan’s Representative in India was welcomed by the university registrar Professor YSR Murthy who reiterated the university’s support for the Taiwan Education Center. In his opening remarks Mr. Tien pointed out that India is an emerging economic power, and that this year marks 20 years since the Taipei Economic and Cultural Center was established in India. In these 20 years the relationship between Taiwan and India has become much closer. He considers information technology is an important field in which India and Taiwan can jointly achieve great success.

Professor Sreeram Chaulia, dean of the Jindal School of International Affairs, Mr. Deepanshu Mohan, assistant professor of economics there, Dr. Rajeswari Pillai Rajagopalan, a senior researcher at the Observer Research Foundation, and Dr. Fang Tien-Sze from the Center for Asia Policy at National Tsing Hua University in Taiwan were keynote speakers for the morning session, sharing ideas about Indo–Taiwan relations and cooperation from political, economic, and educational perspectives.

The focus of the afternoon session was Chinese Language Education, and several Chinese teachers shared details of their experience, pedagogy, and the challenges, and possibilities of teaching Chinese in a range of settings in India.

The “Emerging India and East Asia Forum 2015” was a great success. The conference brought together various eminent personalities on a single platform to share mutual interests, and discuss problems and motivational factors in the area of developing diplomatic relations between India and Taiwan. A similar conference is planned to be held next year at another Taiwan Education Center in India.

With a subsidy from the R.O.C. Ministry of Education, National Tsing Hua University has been working with O.P. Jindal Global University since 2011. The first Taiwan Education Center in India was set up there, the gateway to the successful establishment of the five Taiwan Education Centers in India, currently in operation. These centers provide Mandarin lessons, and give exposure to Taiwan’s rich history, culture, and education.
