Five Taiwanese universities explore academic partnerships with Ghent University
A delegation of 32 representatives from 5 major Taiwanese universities—National Cheng Kung University, National Chengchi University, National Ping Tung University of Science and Technology, National Sun Yat-sen University, and National Taiwan University—visited Ghent University in Belgium (Ugent) from May 9 to May 11, 2016. The purpose of their visit was to strengthen existing partnerships, and to participate in a three-day ‘Taiwan Match-making Event’ exploring new cooperative opportunities.
This ‘Taiwan Matchmaking Event’ came about as a result of a visit to Taiwan made by Professor Dr. Anne De Paepe, the rector of the university, in November 2015.
It began with a symposium on the best strategies for establishing and maintaining sustainable cooperative projects. The Taiwanese university representatives then visited eight different faculties to discuss possible specific plans, for example to engage in joint doctoral programs and student exchanges, and potential collaborative research topics.
The entire delegation presented details of the academic and educational cooperation partnerships established and related follow-up proposals at a final session on May 11.
