Hsin-Ming Junior High School baseball team wins the 2016 Junior League World Series championship in Taylor, Michigan
The Hsin-Ming Junior League baseball team from Taiwan defeated Hawaihau Little League all-stars from Hawaii, 9-1, in Taylor, Michigan, to capture the Junior League Baseball World Series Championship title. This is the fourth straight year that Taiwan has won the Junior League World Series since the Taiwan Junior League team returned to the game in 2010.

The final game was hardly in doubt. The talented Taiwan team rolled through the Asia-Pacific region, went 5-0 in Taylor, outscoring all its opponents: Australia 5-1, Czech Republic 12-0, Mexico 11-0 and 6-2, and Hawaii 9-1. During their second encounter with Mexico, the Taiwan team fell behind in the early innings, but after a burst of heavy rain during the 6th inning, the Taiwan team counterattacked. The team scored 5 points in one inning, including two doubles by Chen Hsun Lee, and finally defeated Mexico with a score of 6-2.

Many Taiwanese compatriots from Michigan and from Illinois went along to watch the final game of the series and cheer the team to victory. They were joined by Calvin Ho, Director General of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Chicago, and Elaine Chen, Deputy Director General, supporting the team, and a group from the Taiwanese American Chamber of Commerce of Greater Chicago, who were all there to witness the Hsin-Ming Junior League baseball team’s splendid victory.
