The Taiwan Scholarship program was set up by the Ministry of Education of the Republic of China approximately two decades ago to attract outstanding young people from around the globe to study for a degree in a university in Taiwan. Around 250 foreign students worldwide are awarded one of these scholarships each year. Over the last two decades, the Taiwan Scholarship program has provided thousands of young scholars opportunities for academic and educational exchanges with young scholars from Taiwan and from other countries, as they study for a degree.

The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Thailand has been authorized to select the students in Thailand to be awarded a Taiwan Scholarship. There is a rigorous screening process. Approximately 60 people applied this year and 26 were selected to be interviewed, after the initial document review. Thirteen of the Thai students were considered the most eligible and were then awarded a Taiwan Scholarship. Most of the successful applicants are graduates of prestigious universities in Thailand with an excellent academic record, and work experience. They want to study in Taiwan because of the high quality of higher education there and the friendly living environment. Being able to study in Taiwan is truly a case of a dream-come-true!

The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Thailand hosted an information seminar to brief the scholarship recipients about living and studying in Taiwan, to prepare to begin their study journey in the coming month. The seminar attendees found the information provided very useful and also enjoyed meeting the other before they all begin studying in different universities all around the island of Taiwan.

One of the expectations is that each scholarship recipient will return to their home country after they graduate and promote interaction and exchange activities with Taiwan. We believe that in many fields the ties between Taiwan and Thailand have been growing much stronger with the assistance of people from Thailand who were formerly awarded a Taiwan Scholarship.
