Mandarin Teachers Conference jointly organized by TECO in Ho Chi Minh City and TECO in Hanoi
This year the Ministry of Education in Taiwan has sent 32 teachers to Vietnam to teach Mandarin at 27 universities there. The Education Divisions of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Ho Chi Minh City and of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Hanoi jointly organized the Mandarin Teachers Conference, which was held in the New World Hotel Saigon in Ho Chi Minh City on November12, 2016. The Mandarin teachers at the Taipei School in Ho Chi Minh City were also invited to attend.

This conference was the first time that all the Mandarin teachers from Taiwan teaching in universities in all parts of Vietnam have come together to share their teaching experiences and difficulties that they face. It was organized to give the teachers an opportunity to build up a network and partnerships to assist each other with teaching methodology and materials, and help each other deal with difficulties in their everyday lives, and homesickness.

Personnel from the two Education Divisions explained the important role that Mandarin teachers from Taiwan like themselves play and the Vietnam government regulations pertaining to them. Twelve Mandarin teachers – six teaching at universities in the northern part of Vietnam, and six teaching at universities in the southern part of Vietnam – gave 15-minute presentations about their universities, and most importantly, their teaching methodologies and teaching materials.

This very successful event was attended by approximately fifty people.
