Taiwanese Mandarin Chinese Teachers Promote Tea Culture at Moscow State Pedagogical University

An introduction to Chinese tea was held at Moscow State Pedagogical University on February 16, 2019, as a University Saturday activity. It was organized and presented by Wu Yu-Chi and Liao Pei-Yu, two Taiwanese Mandarin Chinese teachers sent by the Ministry of Education in Taiwan (R.O.C.), and it attracted both Mandarin Chinese learners from the Department of Oriental Languages, and those who love Chinese culture.
They gave a short outline of the history and cultural context of Chinese tea, traditional and modern ways of producing and making tea, and the benefits of tea drinking. They also talked about the many different types of teas and styles of tea pots. They then made some Taiwanese oolong tea (said to have a wide range of health benefits), Chinese white tea (a tea made from the most tender leaf tips, hand-picked before they fully open), and pu'er tea (a fermented tea), for the participants to enjoy. It was no surprise that their presentation received a warm response.
This was the third Taiwanese culture related presentation at the university, to give the staff and students there an opportunity to find out more about Taiwan and the Chinese culture treasured and maintained there. Two were held last year, one on the history of Taiwan and an earlier presentation on Taiwanese tea.
Moscow State Pedagogical University is one of three leading pedagogical universities in the Russian Federation. It has 21,400 students from 75 regions of Russia and 1,300 foreign students from 40 countries, and it has nine institutes, 17 departments, 12 training and research centers, and 50 scientific schools. It has signed MOUs with several key universities in Taiwan, such as National Taiwan Normal University, and in September, 2018, its rector Dr. Alexey Lubkov led a delegation to Taiwan, to seek further cooperation with counterpart institutions there in the fields of arts, teacher training, and scientific research.
