Michael Gahler, chairman of the European Parliament-Taiwan Friendship Group and a total of 6 members of the European Parliament, visited the Ministry of Education on November 1, 2019. The Chief Secretary of Education, Mr. Nan-Shyan Chu, hosted a meeting for the delegation to provide a better understanding of education in Taiwan, including K-12 education and youth development.

During this meeting, the Chief Secretary of Education, Mr. Nan-Shyan Chu exchanged views and ideas on Taiwan’s education system with the delegation, and expressed his expectation for more educational cooperation between Taiwan and European countries.

Firstly, in order to strengthen cooperation between Taiwan and the EU, the Ministry of Education launched the Taiwan Study Program and the Mandarin Training Program. EU officials can participate in these two programs to learn more about Taiwan. Secondly, to encourage youth to participate in global activities, the Youth Development Administration of the Ministry of Education initiated the iYouth Voice program, and held the annual Global Youth Trends Forum which invited youths from all over the world to discuss international trends and issues.
