Applications for Taiwan and Austria Higher Education Science and Research Seed Funding Scholarships for Travel to Taiwan Reopen
The Ministry of Education (MOE) in Taiwan and the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research (BMBWF) in Austria signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the Field of Higher Education on January 28, 2019. In the same year, the two countries established the Taiwan and Austria Higher Education Science and Research Seed Funding Scholarship for master’s degree and PhD program students.
These scholarships will provide excellent students in both countries more opportunities to enrich their international exchange experiences. They will also contribute to enhancing and strengthening academic cooperation between Taiwan and Austria, and related academic networks.
Twenty-three students from Taiwan were selected to go to Austria to study, undertake research, or on exchanges from September, 2019 to February, 2020. The initial applications for Austrian students to receive one of these scholarships to travel to Taiwan for “productive experiences” in spring in 2020 opened in November 2019, and twenty applications were received. Unexpectedly, the rapidly worsening Covid-19 situation led to the application process being temporarily cancelled.
Austria is now reopening calls for applications for a Taiwan and Austria Higher Education Science and Research Seed Funding Scholarship. The Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research in Austria hopes that these scholarships will encourage outstanding students to go to Taiwan to study, to do research, or on an exchange. The scholarships provide funding support of 1,000 euros per month for up to four months, and air travel costs of up to 1, 500 euros. The deadline is 15 July 2020.
