Representatives of Gold Medal Winners from 9 International Inventions Exhibitions in 2019 and 2020

To praise and encourage the outstanding performances of students of innovative inventions and creative designs, at 10 am on October 7, 2020, in National Taiwan University Alumni Hall, the Chief Secretary, Ministry of Education (MOE), Hsin-Kuo Liao, especially received the gold medal winners of 9 international inventions exhibitions held in Bangkok (Kingdom of Thailand), Republic of Croatia, Malaysia, Moscow (Russian Federation), Nuremberg (Federal Republic of Germany), Republic of Poland, Romania, Seoul (Republic of Korea), and Ukraine in 2019 and 2020. There were 47 student representatives who won gold medals participating in this event, and the MOE affirmed the students’ outstanding achievements in these competitions. The MOE expects to encourage more students to ‘transform their lives with creativity and achieve their dreams with practice’, and thereby enhance the quality of human life and facilitate social progress.

From 2019 to 2020, the delegations of the Republic of China (ROC) (Taiwan) won 158 gold medals and 3 platinum medals in 9 international invention exhibitions, among which 126 gold medals were won by youth students of the ROC (Taiwan), which in 2019 included:
●17 gold medals in the International Salon of Inventions and New Technologies,
●15 gold medals in the International Warsaw Invention Show,
●5 gold medals in the International Trade Fair ‘Ideas-Inventions-New Products’,
●14 gold medals the INOVA International Invention Show,
●29 gold medals in the Seoul International Invention Fair.
In addition, in 2020, these medals included:
●10 gold medals in the Bangkok International Intellectual Property, Invention, Innovation and Technology Exposition, 
●4 gold medals in the Malaysia Technology Expo on Inventions and Innovations,
●20 gold medals in the Moscow International Salon of Innovation Technologies ‘Archimedes’,
●12 gold medals in the European Exhibition of Creativity and Innovation. 

Chief Secretary, Hsin-Kuo Liao expressed that he was very pleased to see such outstanding achievements of exceptional students in the ROC (Taiwan) today. On behalf of the MOE, he affirmed their outstanding performances and gave his blessing to all students. In addition, he also indicated that the Curriculum Guidelines of 12-Year Basic Education currently promoted by the MOE emphasizes exploration and practice, and its practical ability is believed to cultivate our students to combine with industry and be equipped with excellent soft power in the workplace in the future.

Taking the ‘Handle structure of bicycle steering with human factor engineering functions’ researched and developed by student, Ching-Jan Hsu, and his team from the National Chin-Yi University of Technology as an example, this work can improve the comfort and safety of bicycle riding by adjusting the angle of the universal joint of a handlebar, and won the gold medal of the International Trade Fair ‘Ideas-Inventions-New Products’(iENA). At present, this work has negotiated with industries to develop products in cooperation, which is an outstanding example of industry-academia collaboration.

The MOE expressed its gratitude to the delegation of the ROC (Taiwan) of iENA, the Taiwan Invention Products Promotion Association, the Taiwan Innovation Association, the Chinese Innovation and Invention Society, and all the award-winning student representatives for their dedication and efforts within invention and innovation. In the future, the MOE will continue to encourage the commercialization of works through the tripartite cooperation among industry, government agencies and academia, and through innovative and entrepreneurial talent cultivation mechanisms, with the combination of industrial resources, local innovations as well as business start-up and incubations, in order to facilitate the economic development of society. Students are also expected to make continuous efforts to bring glory to the ROC (Taiwan), and to make a splash internationally.
