Taiwan Invited to the International Webinar on Chinese Language Education Organized By EFLU India

Peters Chen was one of the guest speakers for the international webinar organized

The English and Foreign Languages University in Hyderabad organized a two-day webinar on Chinese Language Education in a Global Scenario: Issues and Perspectives, held on October 15 and 16, 2020. This is the most important conference held by a central university in India to discuss the global Chinese language scenario and the program brought together esteemed experts from various countries. 

This year was the first time that professors and Mandarin teachers from Taiwan have been invited to participate and Mr. Peters Chen, the director of the Education Division at the TECC, was invited to be one of the speakers. The other speakers were Prof. B.R. Deepak; Dr. Hemant Adlakha, Associate Professor of Chinese Studies, and Prof. Sabaree Mitra, all from Jawaharlal Nehru University, and all leaders in the field of Chinese teaching in India.

Taiwan is a Mandarin speaking nation and one that has presented a great example of how to successfully fight COVID, so its participation in this webinar was considered crucial. In addition to Director Peters Chen, five professors and teachers from universities in Taiwan were also invited to speak and share their insights. Among them, Dr. Liao Yi-Yao from Chung Yuan Christian University talked about Digital Technology Integrated into Teaching in Post-epidemic Era, and Ms. Tsai Ling-yun, a Mandarin teacher at SRM Institute of Science and Technology in Chennai, spoke about the importance of using localized teaching materials for Indian learners. 

The webinar was organized by Prof. Syed Jahangir, Dean of the School of Arab and Asian Studies, Prof. Nissim Bedekar from the Department of Asian Languages, and the convener was Dr. Somya Nayak, from the Department of Asian Languages at the English and Foreign Languages University. About 140 teachers and students participated, and found it to be a great learning experience.
