The COVID-19 pandemic has caused a sudden and dramatic change in teaching patterns along with other pressures, and to provide support and enhance educators’ physical and mental health, the Education Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Malaysia and the Federation of Alumni Associations of Taiwan Universities, Malaysia (FAATUM) worked with the Taiwan Alumni Association Of Sabah and the Sabah Education Department to organize a Educators’ Physical and Mental Health Webinar.

This 2-day webinar was held on November 13 and 14, 2020 and over 1,000 people registered and took part which is a clear indication of the pressure educators are experiencing.
The COVID-19 pandemic has already caused huge changes to our living patterns, people’s movements, and economic contraction, and affected the learning patterns of our young generation.

The pressure on educators is enormous. It hasn’t been an easy task for educators and their students to quickly adapt to new and challenging teaching methods and the educators are also responsible for ensuring that the students follow the new strict standard operating procedures on campus. These sudden changes and extra duties have resulted in many getting burned out. So the webinar was designed to release their mental burden and provide them support.

Five professional speakers from Taiwan were invited to give presentations to promote the correct understanding of mental health and physical health. They also shared plenty of easy practical counseling skills with the participating educators that they can use to help their students and their students’ parents in these challenging times.

The webinar was a great success and earned praise for its innovative design and the quality of the content. Only one thousand people could register for the webinar, so the organizers decided to place links to the videos of the talks given by the five professional speakers on FAATUM’s FaceBook page, so that other educators can also gain useful knowledge.
