“Taiwan Education Center in Hanoi” Facebook Fan Page Has Reached 10,000 Fans
The Facebook fan page of the Taiwan Education Center in Hanoi manages by the Education Division at the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in Vietnam reached the milestone of 10,000 fans in June, 2021.
Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages set up a Facebook fan page in 2016 to give students in Vietnam an access to first-hand information about education in Taiwan, including the scholarships available, and opportunities for taking the Test of Chinese as a Foreign Language (TOCFL) in Vietnam. The Facebook fan page was transferred to the Education Division of TECO in Vietnam in 2019, and in just two years, the number of fans has grown from 4,000 to more than 10,000. This great increase reflects the dramatic growth in the number of Vietnamese students in Taiwan.
According to the Department of Statistics of the Ministry of Education in Taiwan, there were 4,988 Vietnamese students in Taiwan in 2016, and despite the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, the number has continued to grow and more than tripled, reaching 17,534 in the 2020–2021 academic year. The number of students from Vietnam studying in Taiwan now surpasses the number of students from Mainland China studying here.
The Taiwan Education Center in Hanoi has allocated people to answer Vietnamese students’ Facebook fan page questions, including how to register for TOCFL, and questions about studying in Taiwan, and this has received a very positive response.
