Taiwanese Student Fan Hsuan-Yi Selected as a Torchbearer for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Torch Relay
The Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Torch Relay was held from 12 August until 24 August 2021.
Fan Hsuan-Yi, a Chiba University student from Taiwan, was selected by the Chiba Prefectural Government to be one of the Paralympic torchbearers for the Chiba City segment of the 2020 Summer Paralympics Torch Relay to be held on August 18.
Fan is the only foreigner among the 55 individuals selected for the 2020 Paralympics Torch Relay. She is currently a post-doctoral student at Chiba University’s Graduate School of Science and Technology, and she’s actively participated in Taiwan-Japan cultural exchanges during her stay in Japan.
The Chiba Prefectural Government appointed her as a CHIBA Ambassador in 2018 and 2019, and in 2020, she was appointed as a CHIBA partner. She has also served the Chiba International Exchange Association, giving lectures introducing Taiwan and its cultural characteristics for multicultural exchanges.
Fan is also an excellent glass artist, and she has held many solo exhibitions in Taiwan and Japan. Her works have won many awards, such as the Golden Glass Award, and have been selected for the Hsinchu Art Exhibition, and the Taoyuan Art Exhibition, and have been collected by the Glass Museum in Hsinchu City, and Chiao Tung University.
