It’s been two difficult years for all the recipients of Taiwan Scholarships and Huayu Enrichment Scholarships (HES) wanting to go and study in Taiwan because of the pandemic severely restricting international travel, and the strict border controls imposed by Taiwan. But after a couple of months of careful consideration and communication with the Education Division at the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in Boston, twenty-two HES recipients and three Taiwan Scholarship recipients decided to stick with their original plans and go to Taiwan in the 2021/2022 academic year. The Education Division organized an online information session to brief them about essential procedures and give them an opportunity to ask questions.

Jonathan Sun, the Director General of TECO in Boston, opened the info session and wished everyone a safe and fulfilling journey. In the next part of the session, Lilian Hung, the Deputy Director of the Visa Services Section, provided details of the documents needed at each stage of the visa application process. Cynthia Huang, the Director of the Education Division, then gave a general introduction to Taiwan and specific details about the quarantine process, scholarship regulations, housing options, and other matters, to help the scholarship recipients to prepare for their journey and quickly settle in.

A Q&A section answered any questions that the scholarship recipients still had and afterwards, the recipients all expressed their appreciation of the session saying they’d found the presentations informative and useful.

The Education Division at TECO in Boston wishes them a safe journey, and all the best with their studies and discovering Taiwan!
