Vietnam was the leading country of origin of international students in Taiwan, according to the figures for 2021 released by Taiwan’s Ministry of Education. Vietnamese students accounted for 17,534 of the 98,247 international students, and they included 12,000 degree students and more than 5,000 Mandarin Chinese language students.

The Education Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Vietnam and National Pingtung University of Science and Technology jointly organized the 2021 Taiwan Education Fair, which took place on October 30, to give Vietnamese students in Vietnam detailed information about university and college programs and scholarships available, and the application procedures. The fair was held online because of the Covid-19 pandemic, with the historically high number of 52 universities and tertiary colleges in Taiwan registering to take part.

The virtual fair included live streaming of university introductions on YouTube, and a Q&A room for each university, and more than 6,000 Vietnamese students took part.
