The First Taiwan–Russian Master Class in Ballet Successfully Conducted Online
In late January 2022, Moscow City University successfully conducted a 2-day Taiwan–Russian master class in ballet for students in Taiwan, with the coordination and help of Education Division of Representative Office in Moscow for the Taipei-Moscow Economic and Cultural Coordination Commission (ED TMECCC). The master class, which comprised two sessions was designed for eight students from the ballet class at Taipei Municipal Zhong-Zheng Senior High School and conducted with the help of a Russian to English interpreter.
Elena Perlina, from Moscow City University, was the ballet master. She is a graduate of the extremely famous Vaganova Ballet Academy in St. Petersburg, and an Honored Russian National Colleague of Culture, and a member of the International Association of Choreography. During the first session, she demonstrated the basic exercises of classical ballet against the wall.
In the second session, she demonstrated the basic exercises of classical ballet in the center of the hall, together with her assistant, Maria Krasilovskaya. Maria is a university student in the 2nd year of the bachelor’s degree program on the art of choreography. At the end of the master class, Maria Krasilovskaya performed the Russian ballet Swan Lake in ballet costume as a surprise gift.
All the participating students from Taipei Municipal Zhong-Zheng Senior High School benefited greatly and they are looking forward to more similar exchanges in the future. In view of the extremely high cultural literacy of Russian people, cultural exchanges between Taiwan and Russia in the fields of arts and culture—such as ballet, painting, music, dramas and so on—serve well as a complement to the traditional political and economic interactions and further enhance deeper mutual understanding.
A Russian news release of this master class was given by Moscow City University (Weblink: https://www.mgpu.ru/online-v-iki-proshyol-mezhdunarodnyj-master-klass-po-horeografii/).
