Flag awarding ceremony for ISF Gymnasiade Normandy 2022 Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Education Lin exhorts the delegation to achieve self-breakthrough

Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Education and Interim Director-General of the Sports Administration Lin Teng-chiao awarded the flag to the delegation for 19th ISF Gymnasiade School Summer Games Normandy 2022 (Gymnasiade 2022) on May 12, 2022. He encouraged the athletes to absorb experience in competition to lay down the foundation for participating in international competition in future and to also cherish this opportunity for cultural exchange to expand their international view and realize the physical education spirit of whole-person development.

This Gymnasiade 2022 will be held in Normandy, France May 12-21. Student athletes from Taiwan will take part in 16 sports, namely, Athletics, Archery, Badminton, Basketball 3X3, Beach Volleyball, Boxing, DanceSport-Breaking, Artistic Gymnastics, Rhythmic Gymnastics, Judo, Swimming, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Wrestling, Para Athletics and Para Swimming. The delegation has 221 members comprising of 145 student athletes, 34 coaches and 42 other team officials. After the flag awarding ceremony, the delegation departed on an evening flight to France.

From 2018, the Gymnasiade has been a biennial event. It aims to enhance exchange and communication among middle school students in different countries and regions and allow mutual learning, building of mutual respect and enjoyment of happiness and friendship by participants through various sports competitions and cultural education activities .

During the flag-awarding ceremony, Deputy Minister Lin urged the young athletes to do their best and to use the opportunity provided by participation in this event to make friends and engage in substantive cultural exchange. The aim is to expand their international vision and make themselves with a world view. He also requested all delegation members and officials to adhere to epidemic prevention rules to stay heathy for competition and return home safely and triumphantly.
