BeSt Job, Training and Education Fair, Austria's largest educational fair, was held at the Vienna Stadthalle between March 7 and 10, 2024. BeSt is an international event, revolving around work, studies and further education, jointly organized by Austria’s Federal Ministry for Education, Science and Research, and the Austrian Employment Service. This year, around 350 exhibitors from all over Austria and numerous other countries, including France, England, Spain, and the United States, presented a wealth of education and training options. Thousands of visitors took this opportunity to obtain first-hand information from experts. The Education Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Austria took part, as it does each year. It looks forward to this annual fair as an opportunity to provide information about studying in Taiwan and Taiwan’s culture and language to the fair visitors, hoping that it will help to convince some people to study in Taiwan!
Hundreds of people of all ages and from all backgrounds visited the Education Division’s booth, which offered information about Mandarin Chinese language courses, different universities in Taiwan, and programs, internships, and scholarships available. Some students already wanted to go to Taiwan as exchange students and they were delighted to hear details of the range of excellent universities in Taiwan. Many had already considered Taiwan as a potential study abroad destination, but others only became aware of Taiwan as a potential study destination as a result of their visit to the fair.
The Department of East Asian Studies at the University of Vienna also had a booth at the fair. Some of its Sinology students working there spoke with students visiting that booth and recommended taking part in the summer language courses and applying for MOE scholarships. They also recommended visiting the Education Division booth for more details. The staff at the Education Division booth were delighted by this positive feedback and support from the Sinology students.
Dr. Horst Hundegger from the Austrian Ministry for Education, Science and Research, the person responsible for organizing BeSt each year; Taiwan’s Representative in Austria Katherine Chang; Dr. Elisa Hsiang-Yueh Wang, Director of the Education Division at the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Austria; and Edward Ho, the General Manager of EVA Airways in Austria, were among the many visitors to the Education Division booth. Representative Chang took the opportunity to speak with Dr. Horst Hundegger and express TECO Austria’s gratitude to him. She also talked with university and secondary students about the advantages of studying, doing research, and/or learning Mandarin Chinese in Taiwan, and she encouraged them to seriously consider it.
While he was visiting the Taiwan booth, Edward Ho announced that EVA Airways in Austria was offering a special discount for students who book their flights to Taiwan with this Taiwan airline. We hope that this will encourage more people to study in Taiwan!
