A ceremony was held at King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi in Thailand (KMUTT) on July 1, 2024 to launch the 5th Taiwan-KMUTT Internship program (TKIP). This program provides opportunities for more Thai students to do internships in Taiwan and for more students from Taiwan to do internships in Thailand, in July and August.

Among the dignitaries who attended the ceremony were Ms. Yi-Han Hsueh 薛懿含, Second Secretary of the Education Division at the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Thailand, Dr. Suvit Saetia, President of KMUTT, Professor Hong-Ming Ku辜鴻鳴, Assistant to the President for Internationalization, and Dr. Asawin Meechai, the Associate Dean for International Affairs.

Ms. Hsueh expressed gratitude to the guests, students, and partners on behalf of TECO, and welcomed the 18 students from five universities in Taiwan—National Chung Cheng University, National Pingtung University of Science and Technology, National Taipei University of Technology, National United University, and Ming Chi University of Technology—to Thailand. Sixty-two (62) KMUTT students are already doing internships in Taiwan after some Mandarin training to help them adjust.

Ms. Hsueh mentioned that this ongoing collaboration between KMUTT and universities in Taiwan is an example of Taiwan’s New Southbound Policy in action, and she wished the 5th TKIP a great success. Following the formal launch, the participating students were given an introduction to the laboratories and companies involved in the program. Speakers from National Pingtung University of Science and Technology and from National United University then gave brief outlines of their students' backgrounds and learning environment in Taiwan. This was followed by a meet-and-greet session, giving TKIP students an opportunity to find out more about their host organizations. This concluded with words of encouragement from Lee Chih-wei 李智偉,Vice President of the Thai-Taiwan (BDI) Technological College, one of the institutions where students are doing their internships.

The participants in the 5th TKIP include bachelor’s degree and master’s degree students in the fields of chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, materials engineering, and information management. The Taiwan-KMUTT Internship Program offers both work-integrated learning and internships, and in addition it promotes cultural exchanges between Thai and Taiwanese students and boosts mutual understanding.

The Taiwan-KMUTT Internship Program continues to strengthen ties between Taiwan and Thailand, providing students with valuable international experience, and fostering mutual respect and understanding. It reflects the commitment of both Taiwan and Thailand to educational excellence and cultural enrichment.

This year's program sets a positive precedent for future exchanges, and it is hoped that the Taiwan-KMUTT Internship Program will continue to develop, building on its current successes, and contribute significantly to the professional growth of the participants and enhance academic collaborations between Taiwan and Thailand.
