2024 National Mountaineering Day: North, Central, and South Hiking Events Last Chance to Register Don’t Miss Out
Taiwan is rich in mountainous landscapes and natural resources. To encourage participation in mountaineering and hiking, the Sports Administration (SA) is promoting the "2024 National Mountaineering Day" series of events, scheduled for October 19-20, 2024. In collaboration with the Chinese Taipei Alpine Association (CTAA) and the Chinese Taipei Mountaineering Association (CTMA), key mountaineering and hiking events will be held across North, Central, and South Taiwan. Over 8,000 participants are expected, with the goal of encouraging people to explore the outdoors, appreciate the beauty of Taiwan's mountain forests, and celebrate National Mountaineering Day together.
The main mountaineering and hiking activities of the 2024 National Mountaineering Day will take place in Taipei City, Taichung City, and Pingtung County. The northern and southern events are organized by the CTAA. The northern event, scheduled for October 19, will offer three routes along the Xianjiyan Mountain Trail, Fuyang Natural Ecological Trail, and in Wenshan Forest Park. The southern event will be held on October 20 at the Silin Green Tunnel in Pingtung County. Participants in these events can win high-quality gifts from over 10 brands, including Merrell, Menard Cosmetics, and Accuratus Int'l Health Company. The central event, hosted by the CTMA on October 19, will take place at the Qingshui Aofeng Mountain Trail in Taichung City, featuring fitness and parent-child group routes, with gifts from brands like Atunas and Vitalon Foods to be won.
National Mountaineering Day’s mountaineering and hiking events in northern, central, and southern Taiwan will happen simultaneously, and registration is in its final stage. Registration for the northern and southern events closes on September 30, 2024, while the central event's registration ends on September 20, 2024. So far, 6,350 people have successfully registered. Those interested can still sign up on the "iSports Information Platform" and invite friends to join, making this year's National Mountaineering Day a memorable experience with family and friends.
To encourage more people to explore the mountain forests and promote diverse sports activities, this year's National Mountaineering Day features not only the main mountaineering and hiking events but also over 100 additional activities organized in collaboration with various government bodies. These include the Hakka Affairs Council, National Park Service, Forestry and Nature Conservation Agency, Health Promotion Administration, and multiple departments within the Ministry of Education, as well as the New Taipei City Tourism and Travel Department, and other national scenic area headquarters. Additionally, two online hiking activities, themed "I’m Good At Mountaineering" and "Hiking for All," were launched in September to encourage families and individuals to hike on their own. Participants can also enter prize draws upon completing tasks as a team.
In addition, the SA has also cooperated with civil society groups and mountaineering teams across the country to organize more than 250 physical mountaineering hiking activities and 20 mountaineering safety lectures, aiming to allow more people to enter the mountain forest and learn mountain knowledge as well as skills. At the same time, there are also large-scale activities such as the National Mountaineering Seminar and the National Mountaineering Association Assembly, bringing industry, government, and academia to work together to improve the quality of the domestic mountaineering environment.
The SA stated that industry has also responded to the 2024 National Mountaineering Day series of activities, including generous sponsorship from more than 40 brands and businesses such as MERRELL, Atunas, and Ting San Iou Mountain Equipment Co. to encourage the public to go outdoors, exercise themselves and promote mountaineering safety concepts.
