The Education Division of the Taipei Representative Office in the EU and Belgium was invited to participate in the closing ceremony of the Emerging Leaders Conference 2024, organized by the World Youth Alliance (WYA), held on November 7. It brought together 46 young people from various European countries. The main speaker was Dr. Francisco Guell, a researcher at Navarra University in Spain, who gave a talk entitled The Phenomenon of Medically Assisted Reproduction in Europe: from Science to Lobbying. This covered the topics of the connection between hormones and women’s overall health, the practical experiences of FEMM (Fertility Education and Medical Management) instructors, and an overview of EU policies and related legal perspectives on reproductive health.

Dr. Roy Chun Lee 李淳, Taiwan’s Representative in the EU and Belgium, was also invited to speak. He discussed the foundation of the Taipei Representative Office in the EU and Belgium, Taiwan’s current status, its economic and political development, and ongoing efforts to align with the international community. He encouraged the young people attending the conference to actively engage in international activities and make meaningful contributions to their societies.

After this, Dr. Nicole Yen Yi Lee 李彥儀, the Director of the Education Division at the Taipei Representative Office in the EU and Belgium outlined a new Executive Yuan initiative designed to encourage more young Taiwanese to go overseas. This new program is in alignment with WYA’s mission of nurturing young leaders to influence regional and international policy and culture, and Dr. Lee announced an agreement with Ina Delić, WYA Regional Director of Operations, to send Taiwanese young people to undertake internships at the organization. This collaboration will give the Taiwanese participants opportunities for hands-on experience in WYA’s operations, to learn about European policy-making, undergo WYA Certified Training Programs, and assist in implementing WYA projects focusing on education, culture, and advocacy.

It is expected that this cooperative initiative will give Taiwanese young people in Taiwan a way to realize their dreams of doing an internship abroad and broaden their horizons, and give more European young people deeper insight into Taiwan–Europe relations.

Ms. Lin Ya-Ting 林雅婷, the Education Division Secretary, also spoke and provided practical details about studying in Taiwan, the scholarships available to do so, and various programs designed to encourage people in Europe to explore Taiwan, and foster exchanges between young people in Europe and young people in Taiwan.
