The Global Village is an annual event organized by Northwestern University School of Law in Chicago. It’s one of the university’s largest community events. In addition to faculty and students, it welcomes people from Chicago’s consulates and diplomatic missions, and members of the local community. This year’s Global Village was held at Northwestern University School of Law on February 26, bringing together international students from countries around the world and associated student organizations. It showcased their different respective cuisines, traditional attire, and unique cultural characteristics. People visiting the Global Village had opportunities to enjoy various activities and engage in meaningful exchanges.

The Taiwanese Student Association at Northwestern University set up a Taiwan booth in collaboration with the Education Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Chicago. It featured Taiwanese cuisine, and posters displaying Taiwan’s natural landscapes and folk culture, and also provided information on scholarships to study at a university in Taiwan: Taiwan Scholarships for degree studies, and Huayu Enrichment Scholarships for language studies.

Joanne Lin, a Taiwanese student who is studying music at DePaul University, was invited to take part in the Global Village cultural performances. She played Taiwanese folk songs, Taiwan’s Flag Anthem, and some popular songs on her violin. The MC introduced each piece and provided background details about Taiwan’s culture and development, giving the audience a deeper understanding of Taiwan’s rich cultural heritage.
