Educational Dedication Awards Ceremony 2008 and Event to Commend Senior Teachers with Outstanding Performance Salute Teachers across the Country
Educational Dedication Awards Ceremony 2008 was held on November 8 at Chungshan Grand Hall in Yangmingshan. Senior teachers with outstanding performance were also commended at the ceremony. President Ma and Premier Liu were present to express their thanks to the country's teachers. After the ceremony, a banquet was given by the president to 37 winners of the award and 218 teachers who had taught for 40 years to show his respect for them. Education is the driving force behind social progress and national development. It takes professionals for a country to develop, and the training of professionals relies on education. This year (2008), 13,298 teachers across the country were judged senior teachers with outstanding performance. Among them, 6,065 had taught for 10 years, 5,066 for 20 years, 1,949 for 30 years and 218 for 40 years. In order to show respect for teachers with outstanding performance across the country and make what they had accomplished known to the public, at the awards ceremony the Ministry of Education presented a cash prize to winners of the award and senior teachers with outstanding performance before Teacher's Day. In addition, a parallel event was held to commend teachers with outstanding performance who had taught for 40 years and winners of the Third Educational Dedication Awards. Premier Liu and education minister Cheng respectively presented them with a medal and cup. After the event, the president gave a banquet to the teachers to commend their accomplishments and efforts.
