Recipients of the Prudential Spirit of Community Award visit the U.S. TECRO office
Through the joint arrangement of the Education Division and the Washington Center for Internships and Academic Seminars (TWC), six middle and high school students from South Korea, India and the R.O.C. (Taiwan) received the Prudential Spirit of Community Award from their respective countries and visited the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the US (TECRO) on May 7, 2013. The TWC Senior Academic Program Advisor, Miss Ann Reynolds, and the Communications Specialist of the Prudential Foundation, Miss Ruth Hernandez, accompanied the students.

During their visit, the guests were shown “Where Mountains Meet Sea,” a creative seven-minute video that introduces Taiwan. Dr. Jacob Ta-tung Chang, Deputy Representative of TECRO, welcomed the students on behalf of Ambassador Pu-Tsung King. Dr. Chang was then briefed on the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards and the accomplishments of the two students from Taiwan, Miss Pu-Ling Wang (王溥琳) and Miss Hui-Chien Chen (陳慧潔). Later, each award-winning student had an opportunity to share his or her story about how they helped people and served their communities. Several reporters also joined this meeting to interview the guests and to learn more about the awards and the students’ inspiring experiences.

Miss Reynolds expressed her appreciation for TECRO’s arrangement and hospitality. She thanked TECRO for inviting the students and giving them an opportunity to speak in public as well as for providing delicious Taiwanese cultural snacks and drinks. Before they left the office, each student received a special clipping report taken from a local newspaper on May 6, the day before their visit. The students expressed their happy surprise to receive this gift.
