Grand 8th Taiwan-Japan Student Forum held at Akita
The grand occasion of the 8th Taiwan-Japan Student Forum was held at Akita, Japan on August 16. Its theme was Heartbeat and Challenges. In all, 96 students, participated in this event: 47 students from National Taiwan University, National Chengchi University, and National Chengkung University in Taiwan, together with 49 students from Tokyo University of Foreign Studies, Akita International University, and Osaka University in Japan.

Lin Shih-Ying, the Deputy Director of the Education Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in Japan attended the opening ceremony on August 16, on behalf of Shen Ssu-Tsun, Representative of Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in Japan. He expressed his sympathy with the students from Taiwan who were giving up some of their summer vacation to participate in the forum, but at the same time he encouraged them, pointing out to everyone there that fostering communication between the youth of Taiwan and Japan is very important foundation work for fostering and maintaining good Taiwan-Japan relations. It is also one of the focus tasks for the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in Japan this year. He expressed his appreciation for their contribution and he hopes that the communication and interaction between the students would be meaningful and fruitful.
