The First Lady of the Republic of China, Madame Chow Mei-ching, visited the internationally high ranking Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin during a visit to Berlin in November 2013. Madame Chow Mei-ching presented the university with the first 13 volumes of “Panorama of Paintings in the Collection of the National Palace Museum”, a series of illustrated volumes depicting some of the many treasures in the collection of the National Palace Museum in Taipei.

At the time of her visit, only 13 of the 16 volumes of the new edition had been printed. The three final volumes recently arrived at the Taipei Representative Office in Berlin, and Prof. Dr. Cen-Chu Shen, the head of the Educational Division there, presented the remaining three volumes in the series to Dr. Andreas Degkwitz, the director of the University Library at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. This is one of the most advanced scientific libraries in Germany, with a total of approximately 6.5 million volumes in its holdings. It is open free of charge to anyone with a valid residence permit.

All 16 magnificent volumes of the “Panorama of Paintings in the Collection of the National Palace Museum” are now on display in their new home in the University Library’s Asian and African Studies branch library.
