Bangkok to launch the first overseas computer-based TOCFL
The Steering Committee for the Test of Proficiency-Huayu (SC-TOP) was established in Taiwan in 2005 under the supervision of the Ministry of Education. The Committee developed the Test of Chinese as a Foreign Language (TOCFL) as an instrument to enable Chinese learners worldwide to assess their Chinese listening, speaking, reading, and writing proficiency levels respectively.

People who pass the TOCFL will be awarded a certificate indicating the proficiency level they have passed, together with a score report card. The TOCFL certificates and scores can be used as evidence of their Chinese proficiency if they subsequently apply to study in Taiwan, apply for a student visa for Taiwan, and apply for scholarships, and for working in a Chinese-speaking company or in Chinese-speaking environments.

The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Thailand (TECO in Thailand) will organize eight TOCFL formal tests in Thailand in 2014. These will be held on different dates in Bangkok, Chiangmai, and Chiangrai, and registration is open to anyone who is a non-native speaker of Chinese. Wells International School in the city of Bangkok will host the world’s first overseas computer-based TOCFL formal test on May 10, 2014, using the school’s first-class computer facilities. This follows the school’s successfully running a computer-based TOCFL Pilot Test on November 23, 2013, with the assistance of experts from SC-TOP in Taiwan.

The registration fee for the computer-based TOCFL formal test in Bangkok on May 10 is 1000฿ per person. A discount rate of 900฿ per person is available to people registering for tests using the traditional Chinese characters or a group of 25 or more people. Due to the seating capacity for this test, only 80 people can register, and applications will be accepted on a first come, first served basis. The coordinator for this TOCFL test is Mr. Lin, who can be reached on mobile: 091-8839081 or by E-mail: lin.k@wells-school.com
