The education division of the Taipei Representative Office participated in one of Germany’s vocatium education fairs in the city of Munich. The fairs are under the patronage of Germany’s Minister for Education and Research and take place annually in several German cities. This event provides high school students between 15 and 18 years of age a convenient way to collect substantial information on the career and/or related education opportunities available at institutions of higher education, vocational schools, companies, and organizations. This is the third time the education division has participated, giving information about Taiwan and the various opportunities to study in Taiwan to the visiting students.

A unique aspect of this fair is that the organizer, IfT, prepares the students for their fair visit. The students are provided with a guide containing profiles of all the exhibitors and prearranged interview appointments are set up for them. On April 8 and 9, 115 exhibitors informed and counselled about 7,000 students at the fair venue. The large Taiwan booth of the education division was well-visited by over 150 students, and over 100 students attended prearranged appointments.

The local office team was well supported by student recruitment professionals from National Cheng Kung University and National Taiwan University of Arts, representing their universities. The German students asked for information about Taiwan in general and about study and life in Taiwan. They expressed interest in a wide range of fields: business administration, art design, dance, performing arts, radio and television, electronic engineering, language learning, medicine, psychology, and social sciences.

The fair was an excellent opportunity to engage in face-to-face counselling, making young German students aware of the possibility of study in Taiwan, and providing detailed answers to all their questions.
