The Taiwan Higher Education Fair organized by the Federation of Alumni Associations of Taiwan Universities, Malaysia (FAATUM) was held in Malaysia from August 14 to August 22. A total of 93 public and private universities in Taiwan participated in this annual event which was held in 3 different cities: Kuala Lumpur, Muar, and Miri, attracting more than 10,000 local high school students..

Dr. Lucia S. Lin, the Political Deputy Minister of Education in Taiwan was invited to speak at the opening ceremony. She pointed out that the number of Malaysian students enrolling in colleges and universities in Taiwan has been growing steadily and breaks a new record every year, and Malaysia is currently the largest source of foreign students to Taiwan. She outlined some of the measures that the Ministry of Education has taken to attract the best Malaysian students to study in Taiwan’s world class universities. Dr. Lin then visited each booth at the fair and greeted the representatives from the universities in Taiwan.

In a joint interview with Sin Chew Daily and Nanyang Shang Bao, two major Chinese language media outlets in Malaysia, Dr. Lin advised and encouraged the Malaysian students who intend to study in Taiwan to choose a major that reflects their own learning interests, because the major they select will determine their future job prospects and career path.

In conjunction with the education fair, FAATUM hosted a dinner on August 15 to celebrate its 41st anniversary. Representatives from Taiwan’s universities, and alumni from Malaysia, Indonesia, Hong Kong, and Singapore were among the more than 1,000 guests invited to enjoy a wonderful evening together.
