Taiwan Malaysia Collaboratively Hold 2016 Taiwan-Malaysia Higher Education Forum

Dr. Lucia S. Lin, Political Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of China (Taiwan) made an official visit to Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) and met with the university President Ir. Professor Academician Dato' Dr. Chuah Hean Teik on December 14, 2015.

Dr. Lin was accompanied by Dr. Tan Sin Leng, Director of the Division of Community and International Networking at UTAR, Dr Chong Siou Wei, dean of the Institute of Chinese Studies at UTAR, Dr. Liu Pei, director of the Taiwan Education Center in Malaysia, Mr. Chu To Ming, director of the Education Division at the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in Malaysia, Mr. Beh Chew Nan, CEO of the Taiwan Education Center, and Mr.Yau Teck Kong, a consultant at the Taiwan Education Center.

During the meeting, Dr. Lin expressed her appreciation that the first higher education projects with UTAR were held last year. She hoped that Malaysia and Taiwan would continue working together to forge cooperation, by organizing a second Taiwan-Malaysia Higher Education Forum in future.

This proposal has gained positive response from UTAR’s President Ir Prof Datuk Dr Chuah Hean Teik, who commented that initial planning is underway and that the forum is scheduled to take place in October 2016.

UTAR has been actively collaborating with many leading universities in Taiwan since its establishment. During the meeting, Dr. Tan Sin Leng, director of the university’s Division of Community and International Networking pointed out that UTAR has now established formal collaborations with 36 universities and educational institutions in Taiwan, including some of Taiwan’s major universities, and that 31 UTAR students had participated in student exchange programs to Taiwan in 2015.

Dr. Lin was invited to Malaysia to host the 16th joint meeting of the Boards of Directors, Principals, and Parent’s Association Presidents of five Overseas Chinese Taipei Schools held in Penang from December 11 to 13. After the meeting, Dr. Lin went to Kuala Lumpur, where as well as visiting UTAR, she visited the Taiwan Education Center in Malaysia and paid a visit to the Chinese Taipei School (Kuala Lumpur) located in Shah Alam.
