The Chicago Chapter of the Fulbright Association and the Institute of International Education (IIE) invited all Fulbright scholars, their families, and colleagues, and in the Chicago area to visit the National Hellenic Museum in Chicago’s historic Greektown and then attend the 2016 Spring Farewell Luncheon on April 16, 2016.

The gathering was to farewell the visiting Fulbright students and Fulbright scholars who would soon be returning to their home countries. This year nearly a hundred students and scholars from Taiwan received a Fulbright grant to study or do research at one of the following excellent universities in Chicago: DePaul University, Loyola University, Northern Illinois University, Northwestern University, Roosevelt University, the University of Chicago, and the University of Illinois.

Consular officers from the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in Chicago and from the German Consulate General Chicago also attended this year’s farewell. Consul General Herbert Quelle, head of the Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Chicago and David Dong, the Interim Director of the Education Division at TECO in Chicago enjoyed a pleasant conversation during the museum visit about the success of Fulbright programs. After the museum visit, the participants enjoyed a traditional Greek luncheon at Roditys Restaurant. Mary Mares-Awe, president of the Chicago Chapter of the Fulbright Association, spoke at the luncheon and warmly encouraged all the scholars, students, and their friends to stay in touch with each other, and she invited everyone to come along to future activities arranged by the Fulbright Association.
