A Taiwanese opera team from Chung-ho Elementary School and a toy-craft team from Situn Elementary School both brought down the house at the 2016 Kids 'N Fun Festival in Cupertino in California on August 13. The two teams were both representing Taichung, a city in central Taiwan, and their performances were aimed at promoting traditional Taiwan culture.
Ms. Hsu Huei-wen, Director of the Education Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in San Francisco met with Peng Fu-Yuan, a Commissioner at the Education Bureau of Taichung City on August 11 who provided a Sister School Agreement template to facilitate this collaboration between the two participating schools, providing an opportunity for the students to develop a global perspective.
Mayor of Cupertino Barry Chang welcomed the Taichung visitors and encouraged them to take this opportunity to develop educational and cultural exchanges between the two cities. The mayor had visited Taichung this June and signed an academic collaboration accord with Taichung’s mayor, Lin Chia-Lung.
Following their widely acclaimed presentations, the Taichung students visited Monta Vista High School, a local public school in Silicon Valley. Monta Vista High is one of the top-ranking high schools in the United States, and it enjoys a well-deserved reputation for its students’ high participation rate in advanced placement courses (85% in 2016).
