Taiwan Higher Education Exposition 2016 held in Mumbai, India
The academic delegation of 41 representatives from 12 prestigious higher education institutes in Taiwan, namely NTHU, NCTU, NCKU, NTNU, NTUST, CCU, TMU, KMU, TKU, CYTU, Nanhua University, and CTBC Financial Management College participated in this event. The delegation was led by Dr. Hong Ho Cheng, president of NTHU. The opening ceremony of the THEE 2016 was held on September 25, and Taiwan’s Representative Tien Chung-kwang welcomed the delegates. Prof. Devang Khakhar, Director of the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IITB) and Prof. Sanjay Deshmukh, Vice Chancellor of the University of Mumbai were the guests of honor at the event. Prof. Khakhar mentioned that he has visited Taiwan this August and was very impressed by the close connection between the industrial and academic fields, and he will encourage more and more elite IITB students to go and undertake a short-term internship and study in Taiwan. The University of Mumbai, under the leadership of Prof. Deshmukh, has 60 departments and institutes, and there are 749 affiliated colleges all over Maharashtra State. He mentioned in his remarks that the demographic dividend in India will help this country grow rapidly in the coming years, and he would like to provide high quality education with the joint support of the University of Mumbai and universities in Taiwan.
As well as organizing and participating in THEE 2016, the delegation also visited IITB, University of Mumbai, Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), and the Institute of Chemistry Technology. Mr. Chen Yita, from the Education Division at TECC, arranged for the professional team from the Office of Global Mandarin Education at NTNU, to visit two international schools, to explore the possibility of further cooperation to provide Mandarin Chinese language education. Universities from Taiwan had much more chance to interact with Indian side. The educational and academic communications between Indian and Taiwan has developed smoothly since past several years.
