The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Australia (TECO) has a long history of participating in Canberra’s annual National Multicultural Festival, a vibrant opportunity to celebrate and enjoy what living in a multicultural city has to offer. The festival presents a rich diversity of cultural traditions, foods, performances, exhibitions, and more.

TECO set up a stall at the festival on February 18 with a Taiwanese theme to reach out to the community. The stall was beautifully decorated using fabrics with Taiwanese Hakka floral patterns and featured a number of themes: Taiwan tourism and culture; studying in Taiwan; trade and business opportunities with Taiwan; and opportunities for skilled people to work in Taiwan.

A wide range of pamphlets about studying, scholarship programs offerd by Taiwan’s Ministry of Education, traveling, and business and industry in Taiwan were available and recruitment posters for some of Taiwan’s top universities were on display, to catch the eye of Australian students who are thinking about studying abroad. And many of the thousands of people who were at this year’s festival stopped to talk with the TECO officials manning the stall.
