The Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degrees (EMJMD) were established in 2004, to enhance quality and mobility in higher education, through academic multi-cooperation between the EU and the rest of the world. Since then, the number of available programs has increased from 19 to over 100. The EMJMD programmes award EU-funded scholarships to the best student candidates applying each year, and so far more than 100 students from Taiwan have been awarded an EMJMD scholarship.

This year, 160 students from Taiwan applied, and so far nine have been selected to undertake the following nine different Master’s programs respectively: Astrophysics; Advanced Spectroscopy in Chemistry Master's Course; Colour in Science and Industry; E+ JMD Cartography; European Master in Comparative Morphology; European Master of Science in Food Science; Technology and Business; MSc European Forestry; and Sustainable Transportation and Electrical Power Systems.

Taiwan’s Ministry of Education encourages Taiwanese students to pursue an EMJMD. The MOE created an EU Scholarship in cooperation with EACEA and each year offers up to 10 students a grant of 12,000 euros per year. Since 2006, 83 students have benefited from this scholarship.
