The 6th U. S. Midwest Chinese Speech Contest

The 6th Midwestern Chinese Speaking Competition was held at Northside College Preparatory High School, in cooperation with the Midwest Chinese Teacher’s Alliance on March 22, 2014. The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in Chicago which is one of the event's supporters awarded a Huayu Language Scholarship for language study in Taiwan during the summer to each of the contest winners.

This year's contestants are over one hundred students from over ten secondary schools in the Chicagoland area. The competition was stiff and reflects how heartily Chinese study is supported in the Midwest. The Education Division of TECO sent a representative to give a speech at the opening ceremony of the competition. The representative encouraged all the participants to continue to work hard on their studies and strengthen their global understanding

At the awards ceremony, prizes and certificates were awarded for each division. This year's champions are Harrison Beard, Nathan Handwerker, and Jeffery Tucker, from Naperville North High School, Saint Patrick High School, and Illinois Math and Science Academy, respectively. The organizers thanked all the students for their enthusiastic participation, and thanked all the teachers for their hard work and contributions to the promotion of Chinese culture.
